Update
By glenn on9/27/2010

My apologies for neglecting to blog much, I think it may be as William Gibson says, paraphrased, it is an odd feeling to blog about my work.  It would be much more appealing to blog about my sport kiting, or maybe my interesting encounters as a rangemaster, although, I'm not sure the anti firearms folks need that information.

Having said that, here is the latest Rifleart news.  We are putting the finishing touches on a couple of U tube videos.  We documented two Spacescape paintings, brushstroke by brushstroke.  For me the results are so interesting, that we may continue to document the occasional painting.  I am fascinated to see the individual results of each brushstroke, especially the response of the canvas at the point of impact.

Sarah is also painting on the freshly blackened canvases.  To add lines a ...

season opens
By glenn on7/22/2010

We are starting work on two 36 X 48 canvases today. Our plan is to get some video footage of the painting process.  I have camera and tripod ready for a first attempt, there is a possibility that i will have a custom painted tripod and camera at the end of the day.

Our focus for this seasons paintings is for more detail in each canvas.  By that I mean, multiple bursts in a vision of expanding galaxies.  An experimental canvas was created at the last of the season, almost destroyed, and has been accepted into the family of Rifleart paintings.  The larger canvases give the opportunity to create more detail.  Sarah becomes the factor in pacing, reminding me to slow down, the discussion continues as we mix paint this morning.  Th ...

Moving into the new year
By glenn on12/29/2009

We are planning to attend the closing show at the Blaubak Gallery on January 1st.  For me, seeing these paintings, in a large grouping, with such good lighting, has been a real treat.  I will be happy to have our personal collection of paintings back in our bedroom.  Having lived with them for so long, they have been missed.  I particularly enjoy watching the change of light and the corresponding change of colors of these special high metallic content paints.

We are discussing with a filmmaker friend the idea of producing a YouTube video of our painting style.  I would like to show, from a black canvas, each brushstroke in high speed filming, to the finishing touches of a Spacescape painting.  Rifleart has been quite the spectator event that to me equals the j ...

Set up at Blaubak
By glenn on12/8/2009

Team Rifleart met at Blaubak Gallery for some setup time.  The magic that Sarah, Lynn, & LaMarr accomplished was incredible.  I did the unwrapping and then just watched the magic happen.  Lynn Bier requested a good assortment of paintings so he could create a composition with them, I now understand.  We are showing a multi-panel painting in the easel it was created in, you know that thing about a picture and a thousand words.  We were offered more wall space, so, Sarah, Lynn, & LaMarr will be meeting to finish on Thursday.  The final Lynn composition will be a surprise to me, I can't wait, hope you can be there.

Winding down for the season
By glenn on9/12/2009

We are finishing the last of this seasons Spacescape series tonight.  The 30 X 40 canvases are a great format for this series, and there will be four of them soon.  It seems like each series becomes more complex, with more steps involved before completion.  Next seasons offerings really reflect that trend.  With the 36 X 48's, we have the opportunity to explore the possibility of creating paintings within the painting.  This size jump is substantial, and offers quite the potential for something good.  I am excited to make this size jump and work in the change in format at the same time, if successful, next seasons paintings will make a quantum leap in quality.  As for size, t ...

Progress report
By glenn on8/26/2009

At this point, the new Spacescape paintings are coming in.  We have five completed, three in process & more waiting to be painted.  We are doing the major push against the ending of the season.  Once the rain comes to tropical Seattle, we stop for the season.

The Spacescape Series has gone large with one 30 X 40 finished, one in process, & two waiting to be painted.  Our plan is to finish the season with a 36 X 48.  I have foreseen that the 36 X 48's may become next season's new series.  The title is still percolating, but I am thinking about something like Multiple Universes.  The plan is to do more small detail painting around the edges of the large burst.  I am still in the process of constructing easel compon ...

Painting time
By glenn on8/4/2009

I'm pretty excited about the next month or so.  We are gearing up to create several spacescape paintings before the rain returns to the Northwest.  We have four 24 X 30's , two 30 X 40's, and one 36 X 48 to paint.  I am confident that the larger canvases will turn out spectacular.  Team Rilfeart conducted an experiment on a couple of full size sheet rock panels and know that we can cover them.

We will be painting after closing, you know where, and are welcome to participate.  Rifleart is a spectator event, and anyone with a spotting scope or binoculars has a good seat.  I will place an announcement on the home page of this website on painting days.

Spacescape series
By glenn on5/13/2009

Spacescape 2 is close to being completed.  It was painted with six strokes from my 20 vartarg.  Breaking from the established formula that was developed in the Multi-brushstroke Series was a surprise to me, but this painting is spectacular.  Spacescape 1 is still in process, and should be finished in a couple of weeks.  Sarah has been doing some interesting painting and highlighting before and after my range painting sessions, we hope you will like it.  Evolving from Multi-brushstroke to Spacescape is making me slow down in this whole process, now, the painting is finished when it is finished.  Spacescape 2 did not need any strokes from my .308.  Our new pattern is to do a couple of brushstrokes and bring in the canvas for drying.  We have found it more relaxing to paint in the evening instead of before range opening.

We will be taking ...

single panel series 12
By glenn on3/17/2009

Sarah and I have been cataloging our paintings recently.  Much to our surprise, we found another single panel painting that has not been photographed or listed.  Look for this addition soon.
